Fever Dreams
Curation & Exhibition Design 2023
Collaboration: Victoria Jung, Verena Kerfin Gallery
Location: Verena Kerfin Gallery, Berlin
Victoria Jung's photographic series Fever Dreams portrays New Orleans as a place of extremes. Within an environment shaped by decay, vulnerability, and constant transformation, a rebellious queer subculture has created its own fascinating universe of the here and now—a world where the lights shine as brightly as the shadows are dark.
The stories and impressions Victoria Jung brought back from her travels fascinated me to such an extent that I wanted to translate this fragile atmosphere of New Orleans into spatial experience. Drawing on the improvised structures that characterize the cityscape in the aftermath of hurricanes, a flexible exhibition system of display surfaces and spatial backdrops was developed for the photographs. This modular and reusable exhibition kit subsequently accompanied the series to numerous exhibition venues across Europe, continually adapting to new spatial conditions and generating site-specific installations for each location.
A central element of the first exhibition were the “Flying Papers” collected by Victoria Jung during her time in New Orleans. Suspended freely throughout the space and set into motion by subtle air currents, these fragile elements created a sense of instability and transformation, making the tension between vulnerability and euphoric release physically tangible.

The mirrored surfaces created a sensitive backdrop for the intimate portraits while subtly addressing questions of identity, self-perception, and belonging to the visitor itself

After the exhibiton, the "Flying Papers" became part of the photobook of Victoria Jung.
