Aqua Föhr
Swimming hall, Fitness and SPA Center
Position: Construction Planning for Sunder Plassmann Architects
Location: Wyk, Föhr
Client: Städtischer Liegenschaftsbetrieb der Stadt Wyk auf Föhr
In 2020 Sunder-Plassmann Architekten won the competition for the new wave pool and spa facility “Aquaföhr” on the island of Föhr. The design integrates into its coastal surroundings through the use of natural and regional materials such as wood and thatch, acting as a connecting element between the island’s sheltered, inland landscape and the open sea.
As an architect at SP Architekten, I was significantly involved in the detailed and execution planning phases (LP 3–5). My focus was on the development and refinement of construction details, ranging from pool technology to façade detailing for wood and thatch surfaces. Within the planning process, I concentrated in particular on the design of the sauna landscape and fitness areas in close collaboration with specialist planners.
In addition, I was responsible for the complete material specification of the building. My work emphasized durable, saltwater-resistant, and sustainable materials in order to achieve a cohesive and timeless overall concept. I also took on the role of presenting these concepts to the client.
