The task was to design a centre for innovation for the company Haglöfs, producer of outdoor products, in the city of Malmö.
We quickly dropped the initial idea to recreate nature as artificial landscape as might be done by other outdoor firms like Globe Trotter. We decided to concentrate on the company‘s timeless and unpretentious design. Thus our concept is characterised by a very simple repertory of forms, clear lines dominating the layout. We also abstracted parts of nature and integrated them into the architecture. The building is for example dug three meters into the ground and encircled by a big water basin. The building harmonises perfectly with the surrounding landscape. What may seem unspectacular from the outside, turns into a fascinating spatial experience in the inside.
